Guest Feedback - Rusby Barn

We have just spent a week in Rusby Barn and it was the most peaceful and relaxing week. The Barn is beautifully located, beautifully furnished and there is literally nothing we needed that was not provided.  The welcome hamper was perfect,  everything from eggs and bacon to wonderful shortbread and marmalade and the beer and wine in the fridge. The view from the barn is breathtaking and the local area is wonderful for walking and exploring.  Don’t forget to visit Melmerby, the Village Bakery is worthy of its Egan Ronay award and the General Store has wonderful, enormous, fruit and cheese scones and also sells antiques!  Simon and Claire have created an idyllic rural retreat, and our two dogs had the times of their lives.

We would have liked to stay here forever, but sadly we only booked for a week.

Every angle is a new spectacular view - my geography teacher would have a fit of excitement at the evidence of glaciation all around us.

Our favourite walk was a stunning one at Armathwaite - would thoroughly recommend.

Wifi was excellent and horses just across the road by the river were delightful.

I think I speak for all of us when I say that it's been a privilege to be here together.

Thank you.

What a fabulous place to stay, absolutely everything has been thought of and provided, which is much appreciated.

Beautiful barn, beautiful views, will miss the sheep at the window watching TV with us.  Visited Lowther Castle, Penrith, Maryport, Solway Firth, and Morecombe Bay.  Weather has been beautiful.  Dogs loved being in the courtyard.

Thank you for the hamper, very much appreciated.

What an amazing cottage, comfy, cosy, beautifully furnished, everything you need.

Garden brilliant for our Flatcoat, Forest, don't think he wants to go home either.

We've been self catering for a very long time, Michael never gives full marks out of 10, except for this one, 11 out of 10.

Thank you for wine and chocolates.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.  Will definitely recommend to friends.

We dare them to find fault.  Congratulations to whomever did design and styling.

What a fabulous find Rusby Barn is - superb location, immaculate + everything you could ask for. The weather wasn't great but the comfortable barn made for a lovely home from home to come to.  Thank you for the welcome wine + chocolates, a lovely surprise! We had good meals in the Shepherd's Inn @ Langwathby + the King's Arms in Temple Sowerby.

Unfortunately the local Fox Inn was closed for the time we were here.  Great walking from the doorstep, the dogs loved it!

Thank you both very much + we hope to be back in 2018.

What a lovely barn it has been fab.  Lovely location lovely food at the Fox Inn. Could have had a lift home from the landlord if we had wanted to leave the car!

We can't fault this week everywhere has catered well with tip top food.  The views have been beautiful and would recommend Kirkstone pass and Aira Force out of this world.  We have even watched the gliders taking off and landing right on the doorstep.  Home from Home.

Thank you.

We will be back sometime in the near future.

Thank you for letting us share your piece of heaven.

We will return home with a bit of Cumbria forever in our hearts.

Our best days out include:

  • Lowther Castle & Gardens

  • Whitehaven (Beach day)

  • Keswick - Shopping day

We hope your stay is as wonderful as ours was :-)

A very pleasant stay at Rusby Barn.  Well equipped, clean and comfortable place to stay.  A special thank you for the wine and chocolates they were very much appreciated.  Very central to visit different places especially the Lakes and down to Yorkshire.  Penrith very good for shops, we especially like Cranston's (purveyors of fine food and meat) but there are other shops available like Sainsburys, Morrisons, and Booth's.

The Shepherds Inn was great to stop at on the way back from Penrith at Langwathby.

Will be returning next year.

Thank you Claire & Simon

Thank you to Claire & Simon for a lovely week in Rusby Barn - on hand in Corn Rigg Cottage during our stay! :-)

Our 5th year in Rusby Barn as comfortable as always - well equipped and grateful for the added extras (wine + chocolates!)

Our first stay during winter & nice to see the snow - so beautiful on the mountains!  Usual walks at Pooley Bridge, Derwentwater & Latrigg, plus a trip to Grasmere & Ambleside - old favourites!

Already looking forward to our next stay - sad as always to be leaving Rusby Barn & the beautiful Lake District.

Gail and Mark Lewis, November 2016

This is our second visit to the area, but first time at Rusby Barn - what a wonderful find!

The cottage was just perfect - well equipped and all needs catered for.

The drying room is great for hanging wet coats after a rainy day, bu we were very lucky with the weather and only really had one wet day.

The stove made the cottage cosy at night time, and the beds are very comfortable.

Would recommend The Shepherds Inn at Langwathby and the 'Wathby Whale', the staff very friendly and the food amazing.

The views from the cottage are just wonderful and our little grandaughter enjoyed the farmer 'rounding up his sheep' and the Old Hall Farm near Ulverston is well worth the long drive, the staff were amazing with the wee ones, and the team room is a delight.

Thank you so much for the wine & chocs - what a treat, all in all a wonderful Holiday
